Biographic Sketch

Alex Delis is a Professor of Computer Science in the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications at the National and Kapodistrian Univ. of Athens (UOA) and currently serves a term as Director for the Computer Systems Division. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Univ. of Maryland at College Park in 1993. Since then, he served as Lecturer and Senior Lecturer of Information Systems at the Queensland Univ. of Technology in Brisbane, Australia and later on, as an Assistant and Associate Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering in Brooklyn, NY before he joined the Univ. of Athens. He has also taught at the Univ. of Maryland in College Park, MD, the Catholic Univ. of Cordoba in Cordoba, Argentina, the Univ. of Patras in Patras, Greece and the Univ. of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, PA. His research interests are in distributed and virtualized systems, cloud computing, management of big data and software systems, topics on which he has published articles in archival journals and international conferences. He has served in numerous Program Committees for international conferences in the above research areas and is part of the editorial boards of the Int. Journal of Cooperative Information Systems (IJCIS) and the World Wide Web Journal (WWWJ). He regularly reviews for archival publications, research organizations and publishing houses. He has been a (co-)principal investigator in several research projects funded by various government agencies and corporations in the Commonwealth of Australia, U.S.A, Greece and the European Commission. He is the recipient of a CAREER Award from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), an outstanding paper award in the IEEE Int. Conf. on Distributed Computing Systems (IEEE-ICDCS), a Wilkes Award from the British Computer Society for an outstanding paper contribution in The Computer Journal and a best technical contribution by MITRE Corporation. He has been a Fulbright Fellow and is a founding member of the Madgik Research Group at UOA, an affiliate member of the Athena Research Innovation Center, and a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece, the ACM and the IEEE.
